Trick or Treat! ….Or stay at home?
It's a well known fact that your maturity grows as you age. And it might be seen as a little childish, dressing up for a single night. Yet there are costumes specifically geared towards adults. So the problem isn't with the costume, but what is it?
Halloween, for me, has always been more associated with candy than with horror. I'll acknowledge that a part of that might have been the way I was raised, but without fail the most exciting part of Halloween was waiting with anticipation to leave the house, going up to complete strangers and the appreciation of my costume from these random strangers. Of course, there was always the disappointment of when none would answer the door, and the loss of feeling in the tip of your fingers. So how come I didn’t go trick or treating this year?
The change begins with the small things. You chose to go Trick or Treating with your friend, for the first time without your family. Maybe not only one friend, maybe you grow and so does your social circle. At some point, Halloween has become more of a hangout with your friends than going outside. When I did a little survey around school, 3/6 people decided to hangout with friends this Halloween, vs. trick or treating.
For others, the change could, simply, matter less. Over the years you dress up and go with your family to receive candy from strangers. You used to love picking out your costumes! Until you didn’t. I asked around and only 2/6 people just stayed home, maybe handing out candy, but not really even dressing up. Hey, I can’t hate on staying home if you wanted to just watch scary movies!
Now, there's an even smaller percent, 1/6 people who were on the other side of this lack of motivation. Not having anyone to go with is also a reason for staying at home.
Overall, whether you did anything or not, I owe you a belated Happy Halloween!!
