THE ROMANCE OF FALL

My mind is aware

The cold biting at my nose

At my cheeks

Makes the sheets

Especially joyous

I dress in layers

Trying as hard as I can

To mimic

My warm cocoon

My mind is lazy

As I sit on the 9

I put both headphones in

My mind pleasantly

Bending and flowing with the music

I watch the world go by

I study the people

Admire the downtown

I

Think

Think

Think

Of the lives

That flash in and out

Of mine

I give my

Warmest smile

To the bus driver

And in Tragic Un-coordination

I step onto the sidewalk

I have a specific destination

And I eagerly welcome

The warm aroma of coffee

My smile returns

As soon as I hear

The little bell of the door

And waltz

Into Heaven on Earth

I walk away

With the sweetest coffee

Money can buy

I turn onto

A neighborhood street

Spooky decor

And absolutely

Stunning

Oranges

And Reds

And Yellows

Frame the road

On either side

I sip and warm my chest

Just to greedily suck in

The crisp autumn air

A private smile

Still dances across my face

And I tuck this moment

Close

To

My

Heart

Because this happiness

Belongs only to me

And it feels good to be alive
